(New Castle, DE) At approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) police officers responded to a report of a personal injury accident on the New Jersey-bound span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
At the accident scene, officers found the driver of a Pontiac G6 trapped in her vehicle after it made contact with the bridge abutment, causing extensive damage to the vehicle. The driver, Janell HAULSEY, 28, of Maple Shade, NJ, was trapped in her vehicle for 30 minutes before being extricated by rescue personnel.
HAULSEY was transported to Christiana ER for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Initial investigation revealed that HAULSEY was taking evasive action to avoid an unsafe maneuver by another driver and struck the abutment. The investigation is still pending. Traffic on the Delaware Memorial Bridge was impacted for about 45 minutes.
