(North Cape May, NJ) Looking for adventure, something different to do while vacationing in thetwin capes resort region? The Cape May – Lewes Ferry – your ticket to fun destinations in both New Jersey and Delaware – offers a season full of excursion packages that will provide entertainment both on land and by sea! From trips to museums and guided-tours of Victorian Cape May and Historic Lewes Delaware to visits with bobcats and monkeys at the zoo, great outlet shopping and World War II Sites, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry foot passenger excursion programs offer something for everyone.
The ferry is perfect for walk-on passengers! Just park your car in our free, well-lit and security patrolled lots. Then purchase a round-trip foot passenger/shuttle combo ticket at the ticket counter or avoid the lines and purchase your tickets at our newly installed self-serve kiosks. Once you board the ferry, enjoy the beautiful, scenic 80 minute cruise across the Delaware Bay on “the best boat ride in America.” Maybe you’ll see dolphins; you will surely see lighthouses on your voyage to either historic destination. The CMLF works with tourism partners to offer passengers value-added excursion programs. The following are program highlights for the summer season:
On the Ferry:
Rock the Boat: Passengers can enjoy free entertainment aboard select departures every Friday beginning July 9 through August 27. Boatloads of great music. The ferry is the place to be on summer Friday nights in July and August. Cruises depart Cape May at 6:00 p.m. and from Lewes at 6:15 p.m. Entertainment is free with the price of ferry passage.
Marine Naturalist Program: Beginning July 5 and continuing through August 26, Stone Harbor Wetland’s Institute naturalists will be aboard the ferry every Monday and Thursday. Experience informal talks about live animals brought aboard (terrapins, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, etc.). Departs from Cape May at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm. Departs from Lewes at 11:15 am and 2:45 pm. Free with the price of ferry foot passenger ticket.
Lighthouse Pete’s Family Fun Cruise: Bring the family on a fun-filled adventure with the ferry’s adorable mascot, Lighthouse Pete the Pirate. Pete will be joined by other great family entertainment including music. These cruises, which begin on July 7 and continue through August 26, depart the Cape May terminal at 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday and the Lewes terminal at 4:15 p.m. every Thursday. Reservations are suggested. Free with the price of ferry foot passenger ticket.
Destination New Jersey:
Heed the Call of the Wild! Take a trip to the Cape May County Park and Zoo every Tuesday and Thursday, June 22 through August 26. The package includes round-trip ferry ride, which departs from Lewes at 9:15 am and returns from Cape May at 4:30 pm; includes shuttle service to and from the zoo. You’ll get a fascinating look at 250 species of animals, birds and reptiles in a beautiful garden setting. Adults: $26; Children 6 -13: $18; Children under 6: Free. Space is limited. Atlantic City Tours: Available every Wednesday and Thursday from June 16 – August 26, our Lucky 7s package includes round trip Ferry cruise and deluxe motorcoach transportation to Atlantic City’s Tropicana Resort. Adults: $12. Every Monday, Tuesday and Friday you can ride the Casino Connection to a variety of casinos. Adults: $34.00 Must be 21 years of age or older. Space is limited, reservations are required at 800.643.3779.
WWII Trolley Tour: Available every Monday and Wednesday between July 7 and August 25 on the 10:15 a.m. departure from Lewes, the package includes round-trip ferry ride and shuttle service into Cape May. From there, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will take you on a guided 2-hour trolley tour. Learn about the impact of the war on the Cape May area and see the coastal fortifications at Cape May Point including Battery 223 and Fire Control Tower No. 23; see the Cape May Canal and tour Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum. Adults: $36.00; Children 6-13: $26.00; Children under 6: Free
Cape May Guided Trolley Tour: The “nation’s oldest seaside resort” is known for its gentle sloping beaches, cool ocean breezes and stunning Victorian architecture. Available daily, June 14-October 1, the package includes round-trip ferry ride from Lewes and shuttle service into Cape May. From there, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will take you on a guided, 45-minute trolley tour of the town’s Historic District. Following your tour, enjoy the city’s unique pedestrian mall and promenade which offer shops and boutiques galore. Adults: $25; Children 6 - 13: $18; Children under 6: Free.
Historic Lewes Tour (Self-Guided): A unique destination that combines the lure of the sea with fascinating opportunities to “live” history. The package, which is available Monday through Saturday from June 14-September 18, includes round-trip ferry ride from Cape May, shuttle service into Lewes and admission into the Lewes Historical Society Complex, Cannonball House Maritime Museum and HMB DeBraak exhibit at Zwaadendael museum. Adults: $25.00; Children 6-13: $18.00; Children under 6: Free
Lewes Guided Trolley Tour: Explore the quaint streets and beautiful waterfront of Lewes every Tuesday through Thursday from June 15 through September 16. Depart Cape May at 9:30 am or 11:00 am to enjoy your 30-minute guided tour of historic Lewes. You will have a chance to meander down Pilottown Road along the Lewes & Rehoboth Canal and to see the grand Victorians of Kings Highway. Shipcarpenter Square, Front Street, Third Street, Fourth Street and Savannah Road are also included. Adults: $25.00; Children 6-13: $16.00; Children under 6: Free
Shop ‘til you drop!: The Tanger Outlet Center on Route 1 offers more than 130 designer outlet shops for those rainy or sunny day shopping excursions.
In New Jersey, shuttle service connects the Cape May terminal with downtown Cape May. In Delaware, shuttle service connects the Lewes terminal with downtown Lewes, Tanger Outlets and the DART Park & Ride lot with connections to Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City, MD. The shuttle service operates seven days a week through September 30. In October, the shuttle service runs on weekends only.
