Annual Independence Day Fireworks Display on the Delaware Bay
Cape May, NJ Ferry Terminal Open to the Public; Special Ferry Cruise from Lewes, DE Terminal
(N. Cape May, NJ) On Tuesday, July 3, 2012, Cape May – Lewes Ferry officials are offering two great ways to enjoy this year’s Annual Independence Day Fireworks Display that will illuminate the Delaware Bay Coastline! The fireworks show will launch at approximately 9:00 p.m. from a barge roughly one half mile off shore of the Cape May ferry terminal. Wind and weather conditions may slightly alter the starting time of the fireworks display. The rain date is Thursday, July 5, 2012.
Special Fireworks Cruise from Lewes, DE Terminal: Cape May-Lewes Ferry officials have scheduled a special cruise for this year’s July 4th celebration. Climb aboard the M.V. Twin Capes and grab a seat right on the water for this incredible fireworks show. The cruise departs from Lewes at 7:15 p.m., with passenger check-in beginning at 5:00 p.m. and boarding to start at 6:45 p.m. Photo ID is required when picking up tickets.
“We’re excited to offer a fun way to enjoy the fireworks show from a unique perspective,” said Charisse Rudolph, customer service manager for the Ferry. “Reserve early because there are a limited number of tickets and we usually sell out.”
Live music will be performed by “Glass Onion” and Mike Warren from “Just Kidding Around” will provide children’s entertainment. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Coolers and carry-on beverages are prohibited on-board. Fireworks begin approximately at 9:00 p.m. and run until 9:30 p.m. Start time is subject to slight change depending on wind and weather conditions. The vessel will return to Lewes at 11:00 p.m.
The cost of tickets is $30.00 per adult and $15.00 for children under 12 years of age. Due to limited capacity and popularity of the event, reservations are strongly recommended. Cape May, NJ Terminal Green: The public is invited, free of charge to watch fireworks light up the sky along the Delaware Bay at the Cape May Terminal Green. Before the light show, come early, set up your beach chairs and blankets and unwind. CMLF food services will have food and beverages available for purchase on the south patio, at the On the Rocks Bar & Grill, and Terminal Food Court. Carry in alcoholic beverages are prohibited.
Enjoy free entertainment including face painting and dance the night away to the music of “Jumper,” a Philadelphia based band, from 7:00-10:00. Scuttlebutt around town has it that “Pirate Pete” may also stop by the festival and terminal too!
The Annual Independence Day Fireworks Display is part of the Township’s “Independence Day Festival” which will be held on Bay Drive in North Cape May, NJ beginning at 5:00 p.m.
“Lower Township is thrilled to be able to provide the fireworks for the enjoyment of both our residents and our visitors,” Mayor Michael Beck said. “It is a township tradition, and certainly will be for a long time to come. We wish to thank the DRBA for all their help in putting on this event.”
