Two Vehicle Accident on Delaware Memorial Bridge Southbound Span
All Vehicle Occupants Transported to Local Hospital
(New Castle, DE) Today at approximately 9:30 a.m. Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) police units responded to scene of a two vehicle accident at the Delaware Tower on the Southbound Span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. The two right lanes of the Span were closed while emergency crews rendered aid.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 32 year old male driver of a red Mazda MX6 conducted an unsafe lane change and struck a gray Jeep Wrangler. A total of five people – the male driver of the Mazda, the male driver of the Jeep as well as three female passengers in the Jeep - were transported to Christiana Hospital, with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
All Delaware bound traffic was temporarily stopped for approximately 10 minutes while the vehicles were towed from the scene. Three lanes reopened at approximately 11:15 a.m. At this time, the left lane of the Southbound Span remains closed for construction unrelated to this morning’s accident.
