CMLF Partners with Local Businesses to Enhance the Visitor Experience
Promotes New Programs with Inn at Canal Square and Lewes Cycle Sports
(Lewes, Delaware) Today, Cape May – Lewes Ferry (CMLF) officials introduced two new partnerships with local businesses -- a Sail, See & Stay package with the Inn at the Canal Square and Lewes Cycle Sports for bicycle rentals at the terminal. The goal of the partnerships is to enhance the visitor experience and provide additional value for the tourism dollar.
While the CMLF has a number of packages with local attractions, the partnership with the Inn at Canal Square represents the first of its kind with an accommodation for the CMLF. “We are constantly looking for ways to work more closely with attractions, accommodations, and businesses on both sides of the Delaware Bay to provide choices for our ferry customer,” said Heath Gehrke, Director of Ferry Operations. “As we develop additional packages and partnerships in twin capes region, we hope to attract more visitors who are looking to spend more than a day in Lewes or Cape May.”
“It’s a great opportunity to work together to promote the area to visitors who may be traveling from New Jersey and points north,” said Ted Becker, the owner of the Inn at Canal Square.   “Whether it’s a festival, dining out on the town or a ferry ride, partnerships offer not only choices, but value for our customers. We’re proud to be part of this effort.”

In a related development, CMLF has partnered with Lewes Cycle Sports to offer bicycle rentals at the Lewes terminal. CMLF passengers can now rent a bicycle from Lewes Cycle Sports and pick up the bike at the Lewes Terminal. Simply call Lewes Cycle Sports at 888-800-BIKE or 302-645-4544 to make the bicycle rental arrangements. When the passenger disembarks the ferry at the Lewes Terminal, the bicycle will be waiting for you or we’ll transport you to the cycle shop (5 minute ride) for free!
The Cape May – Lewes Ferry encourages bicyclists to use the ferry service to take a break and cross Delaware Bay for fun and recreational purposes.  The fare for bicycles and riders is $10.00 one way or $18.00 round trip, the same as a foot passenger. The ferry service does not charge a separate fee for bicycles. After bicyclists leave the ferry terminal in Lewes, they are greeted by a state that prides itself on being bicycle friendly. In fact, the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) has selected Delaware as the ninth most bicycle friendly state in the nation. One reason for Delaware’s high ranking is a trail in Lewes called The Junction and Breakwater Trail. This 6-mile-long trail, which is a former rail line connecting Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, is located on the southwestern side of Cape Henlopen State Park.
