Removal of Northbound Bridge Deck and Paving Will Require the Closure of Route 13 Northbound
Wilmington: The Delaware Department of Transportation announces that their contractor, Eastern Highway Specialists will close Route 13 northbound between Boulden Boulevard and I-295 on ramp at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 10 until 5 a.m. on Monday, October 13 for construction. This closure is weather dependent and will be postponed to the following weekend, if necessary.
This construction consists of removing the bridge deck and approach slabs in the northbound direction and replacing hot-mix on the roadway. A box culvert has been placed under this bridge to maintain foot traffic and the bridge is being eliminated.
Variable message boards and detour signage will be posted for motorists. Motorists are directed to utilize the following detours:
The first exit point off of Route 13 northbound is Route 1 northbound to I-95 northbound to I-295 northbound (toward the Delaware Memorial Bridge) and return to Route 13 northbound.
The second exit point off of Route 13 northbound will be Route 141/Basin Road northbound. From Route 141 northbound the detour goes to the I-95/Route 141 interchange. At the I-95/Route 141 traffic will follow the ramp from Route 141 northbound to I-95 southbound than follow the ramp from I-95 southbound to Route 141 southbound than follow the ramp from Route 141 southbound to I-295 northbound (toward the Delaware Memorial Bridge) back to Route 13 northbound.
The third exit point off of Route 13 northbound is a right on Boulden Boulevard to Moores Lane, left on Moores Lane to Landers Lane. Right on Landers Lane to Route 9/New Castle Avenue, left on Route 9/New Castle Avenue. Traffic will follow Route 9 to the Route 9 and I-295 interchange. At the Route 9 and I-295 interchange traffic will take the ramp from Route 9 northbound to I-295 southbound back to Route 13 northbound.
