Inclement Weather Alters Freeman Highway Bridge Concrete Work
One Day Closure to Take Place on Thursday, May 13, 2010
(Lewes, DE) Due to expected inclement weather on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) officials have changed the closure of the Freeman Highway Bridge for concrete deck placement work. The closure will start on Wednesday, May 12 at 10:00 p.m. and continue until Friday, May 14 at 7:00 a.m. Weather permitting, the contractor, Mumford & Miller of Middletown, Delaware, will be placing the new latex-modified concrete overlay on the Bridge.
During this closure, barricades with ‘Road Closed’ will be placed at both intersections and adjacent to the barrier wall on both ends of the bridge. The detour shall be Monroe Avenue/Kings Highway to Savannah Road to Cape Henlopen Drive. Detour signs will aid motorists with the alternate route. The DRBA apologizes for any inconveniences that may occur as result of the bridge closure.
On May 17-18, the DRBA expects to complete the first phase of the bridge deck construction and plans to switch the traffic pattern to work on the second phase, replacing the eastbound bridge deck (heading to the Lewes Ferry terminal).
