Trunk or Treat Event in New Castle Returns!

Get ready for a safe and fun Halloween! The annual Trunk or Treat event is returning to New Castle, Delaware, providing a secure and positive environment for local children to celebrate.

A Positive Connection with Local Law Enforcement

This popular New Castle Trunk or Treat event is designed to be more than just a place to get free candy. For children in the surrounding area, which is not always a safe place for traditional trick-or-treating, the event offers a vital safe space. Furthermore, it gives kids a much-needed opportunity for a positive experience with their local police officers and first responders.

"The main goal is to show the kids that we are here to protect them," says Phil Hiller, President of the DRBA Police FOP Lodge, who coordinated the DRBA's participation. He fondly recalls the joy of these events: "cops were smiling more than the kids." With an expected attendance of around 600 children, the community gathering provides a safe alternative for neighborhoods where giving out candy may not be financially feasible.

Officers Go the Extra Mile

This event is a labor of love, with officers from all participating agencies, including the Delaware River and Bay Authority Police, volunteering their own time and attending in uniform- an effort approved by Colonel Wayne McFadden of the DRBA. The dedication of the officers shines through, as Hiller recounts one year when they ran out of treats: "The officers quickly headed out to Dollar General, and bought more candy with their own money." This is a clear testament to their commitment to the community.
