A Day of Service at St. Patrick's Center in Wilmington
At the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA), our mission is to connect people and places. But our commitment goes beyond bridges, ferries, and airports; it extends directly into the communities we serve. That commitment was on full display as a diverse group of DRBA employees from various departments volunteered their time and energy at the St. Patrick’s Center in Wilmington, Delaware. This day of service was a powerful reminder that our connection to the community is built on a foundation of support and partnership.
Answering the Call for "Most Needed Items"
The volunteer day kicked off with an incredible offer of generosity from DRBA employees who had been collecting a wide range of "Most Needed Items" for the center. St. Patrick's Center, a cornerstone of the East Wilmington community for over 50 years, provides essential support including hot meals, groceries, and social services to those in need. Our employees' donations were a direct response to the center's call for help, proving that collective action can make a real difference.
The on-site volunteer work was just as impactful as our team rolled up their sleeves to assist with various tasks. In the clothing closet, they helped sort, organize, and hang donated clothes, ensuring clients had easy, dignified access to the items. They also played a crucial role in the center’s food program, serving hot lunches, cleaning dining tables, and restocking shelves in the bustling food pantry. Every action, big or small, contributed to the center's mission of building community and restoring hope.
Inspired to Serve: A Grassroots Effort
The event was the brainchild of T.J. Murray, a management analyst at the DRBA. He believes in the importance of stepping outside of our day-to-day roles to make a direct impact. When asked about his motivation, Murray shared, "It's one thing to serve the public through our daily work, but it's another to step out and serve our neighbors directly. This day was about showing our commitment to the community on a personal level and highlighting the powerful work of organizations like the St. Patrick's Center."
This volunteer day is just one example of the DRBA's ongoing community engagement efforts. Through partnerships with worthy non-profits, we aim to extend our reach and support the vital work being done by organizations that are woven into the fabric of our local communities. We are proud to have assisted the St. Patrick's Center in their mission to provide support and stability to Delawareans!
