The DRBA Walks With Autism Delaware

In April 2025, during Autism Acceptance Month, members of the Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) team laced up and joined thousands of participants at the iconic Dover Motor Speedway for the annual Autism Delaware Walk for Autism. As an Advocate Sponsor, the DRBA provided crucial backing, but our deepest focus remained on the powerful community connection and impact generated by this collective effort. This initiative directly reflects the DRBA's core value of community support and our robust commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) across the region.

Fostering Unity in Diversity: The Power of Participation

At its heart, the Walk for Autism is an unparalleled day of unity. It transforms the vast space of the Speedway into a warm, supportive, and communal environment where Delaware's families, friends, service providers, and corporate partners gather to celebrate neurodiversity.

For the DRBA, sending our employees and their families to participate in this highly-attended Delaware event was a direct action of solidarity. Our presence, shoulder-to-shoulder with local families, sends a clear message: the autism community is both valued and actively supported by key regional institutions. This visibility is vital for fostering a culture of unity in diversity and helping families feel truly seen and connected. It also provides a deeply meaningful opportunity for DRBA employees, strengthening internal bonds through shared community investment that reaches far beyond our daily operational duties.

Our Investment: Supporting Essential Programs for Delaware Families

The Walk is a major fundraising engine that powers life-changing programs for Delaware families. By providing support as an Advocate Sponsor, the DRBA helps ensure that Autism Delaware has the necessary resources to continue its impactful work throughout the year.

This financial commitment directly supports services like parent mentoring, vital advocacy for appropriate state services, and vocational training that prepares adults on the spectrum for employment and independence. This targeted community support aids in creating a stronger, more capable talent pool and supports the overall well-being of the neighborhoods we serve. Our commitment is a practical way to meet local needs and strengthen the social infrastructure of our region.

Connecting Through Shared Purpose

The DRBA's primary mission is to connect the people, places, and economies in the heart of the Northeast Corridor, and our involvement in the Walk extends that fundamental mission into the realm of social services and compassion.

This event allowed us to make authentic connections with local families and service providers, giving us a clearer understanding of the community’s challenges and triumphs. By actively participating in and supporting inclusive Delaware events, the DRBA reinforces its essential role as a responsible and engaged community partner. Overall, the DRBA is proud to be part of the success of the 2025 Autism Delaware Walk for Autism and remains committed to supporting the autism community through ongoing partnership and dedicated participation.
